July 10 - 17, 2000

in South Glamorgan,
Wales.

This will be our fourth visit to the historic town of Llantwit Major, in the Vale of Glamorgan near Cardiff, Wales. Our host site will be the United World College of the Atlantic, whose main buildings comprise St. Donat's Castle (14th Century). In the castle there is a large hall available for playing and performances, which houses the College's Steinway "C" performance grand. In the adjacent College Common Room, which was the old "hall" of the castle (and good for late-night socializing), there is a charming musicians' gallery and a Morley single manual harpsichord.

In past years we have been joined by professional musicians from the surrounding area, along with English cellist Lucy Wilding and Michael Kevin Jones and Americans Judith Glyde (cellist) and Christopher Lee (violinist) making our week of playing a wonderful experience. We always have participants from several countries, as well as local musicians. Staff at St. Donat's and all the Welsh neighbors couldn't be more welcoming. Another week of Welsh hospitality and making music together with friends old and new is sure to be enormous fun.

Very comfortable accommodations are in single or shared rooms with private baths, within the wonderful castle. Meals will be taken at the castle dining hall, with barbecues and picnics several times a week in the beautiful 'Blue Garden" and at the swimming pool overlooking the Bristol Channel. We can plan a Pub Crawl, with transportation and tips on the best pubs provided by St. Donat's staff. 'Cello rental is possible for people traveling from afar.

The rhythm of the days would include playing in assigned groups each morning, lunch at the College, and afternoons free for more playing or exploring the countryside, as you choose. In the evenings, after dinner at the College, we could play together again, possibly larger chamber works. Two years ago many of us attended the black tie opening night of Tosca at the Neath Opera in nearby Craig y Nos Castle and enjoyed a production of Under Milkwood at St. Donant's Cultural Center on the castle grounds. And our professional musician colleagues presented two wonderful concerts in the Bradenstoke Hall of the castle.

From London you can travel to Cardiff by train, bus, or car in several hours. It is also possible to fly to Cardiff. Information will be available on reaching Llantwit Major by car or public transportation. The Vale of Glamorgan is a farming area with its main market town of Cowbridge close by. Llantwit Major is of great historical interest, with its connections to early Christian settlements. The whole of rural Wales lies at your feet.

Non-player friends and family are welcome to join you, space permitting.
